Have you ever found yourself wondering why Greek food is just so darn good? Well, you’re not alone! Many of us are familiar with the more well-known Greek ingredients like olives and feta cheese, but that signature Greek flavor often comes from a rich blend of spices and herbs.

Use it to add authentic Greek flavor to pretty much anything, from chicken thighs and tilapia to roasted root vegetables.

This Greek seasoning blend is perfect for easy meal prep because it is so versatile! Use it as a spice rub, sprinkle it onto popcorn, add it to soups, marinades and even in salad dressing.

It’s super easy to make and to use! Just mix the individual spices together and keep them in a tightly sealed jar in your spice cabinet. Best of all, this Greek seasoning recipe has no chemicals or preservatives like some store-bought spice blends.

Substitutions

Dried lemon peel adds a touch of bright citrus flavor to the blend without adding any bitterness. It’s an optional ingredient, though, so feel free to omit it. You could always just add a splash of fresh lemon juice to your dishes, too.

If you don’t have Greek oregano, you can substitute with Marjoram, because the flavor is very similar. Marjoram is slightly milder than oregano, so you’ll want to add tiny bit more.

How to Make Greek Seasoning

Making this homemade seasoning blends is beyond simple Simply measure the spices and mix them together to a small dish or jar.

Use a spoon to mix it well and it’ll be ready to use!

If you like a finer consistency, quickly pulse all the ingredients together in a blender or food processor. If you have a mortar and pestle, that also works to gently combine and break down the spices.

How to Store Homemade Spice Blends

Whether you make this Greek seasoning recipe or another spice blend, like my air fryer dry rub, the storage is pretty much the same.

Simply transfer the spice mix to a glass mason jar or another airtight spice container. Cover tightly and store at room temperature in a cool, dry place that's out of direct sunlight.

For the best flavor, use it within six months. This is a good rule of thumb for any herb or spice on your rack — they eventually lose their flavor. It's a good idea to label the jar with a date to replace them.

Ingredients

  • tablespoons dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • ½ tablespoon ground thyme
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon lemon peel grated, optional

Instructions

  • Measure each ingredient and add to a glass dish or jar. Use a spoon to mix well and combine thoroughly.
  • Transfer to an airtight container and cover tightly with a lid. Before each use, stir the spice blend again.

Notes

To store: Transfer the seasoning blend to a glass jar. Cover tightly and store at room temperature. Use within six months for best flavor.
