Store-bought ranch dressing has nothing on this incredible homemade ranch dressing recipe! Once you make salad dressing from scratch, I doubt you’ll go back to the stuff you can buy at the grocery store. This recipe is just too simple and the results are so tasty.

Why You’ll Love this Recipe

I love to make condiments at home. Homemade buffalo sauce is a favorite of mine, but this ranch recipe makes a kid-approved dressing. There’s no funky after-taste, no weird ingredients and it comes together in less than five minutes. What’s not to love?

Toss out that ranch dressing you grabbed at the store and make this instead. It’s got just the right creaminess, a perfect tanginess, and everything else you love about a good ranch dressing.

There are no preservatives or artificial ingredients in this dressing! Just real food ingredients and real spices and herbs.

Ingredient Notes

Four glass bowls containing milk, sour cream, mayonnaise, and a mix of salt, dried dill, onion flakes, dried parsley, and dried chives on a light surface.

Substitutions and Variations

Make this dressing dairy-free by using almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk or another dairy substitute. You’ll also need a dairy free sour cream substitute.

Greek yogurt is a great sub for sour cream and will also add a little bit of protein to this homemade healthy ranch dressing. My friend Sam has a great recipe for Greek Yogurt Ranch Dip!

To make this ranch dressing even more simple, use premade ranch dressing seasoning mix! You can grab store-bought or make a homemade version.

Want some tang in your salad dressing? Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice! You can also use buttermilk to create a tangy homemade ranch dressing!

Use a high quality mayo like avocado mayo or make your own homemade avocado mayo.

Uses for Ranch Dressing

Ranch dressing is not only great for salads, but it's a delicious condiment for so many different dishes. It's a classic pairing with chicken wings, I love serving it drizzled on top of buffalo chicken nachos too.

You can even dunk some air fryer chicken for delicious flavor! Dipping homemade pizza in ranch is always yummy too!

Tips for Success

Follow these tips and tricks to make the best salad dressing ever:

  • If you find that the spices and seasonings aren't mixing well with the liquid ingredients, just use an immersion blender to thoroughly blend everything together.
  • Keep adding some milk until your ranch dressing reaches the desired consistency. You can always add more seasoning if the flavor weakens too much.
  • Let the ranch dressing sit in the fridge for a few hours to allow the flavors to meld. I like to make this dressing the day before I know that I'll need it so that it can sit in the fridge for a while!
