Fresh Peach Salsa Recipe

Every summer, when peaches are at their peak, I buy these fuzzy gems by the dozen from my local farmer’s market every weekend. I buy a huge bag (or two), then hurry home to spend the rest of the day standing over the sink, peach juice dripping from my chin.

Just kidding — I’ll snack on a few, but then I’ll use them to make a peach mocktail, a peach crisp and all the peach things.

Peaches are so good in savory dishes too! I love to use them to make peach salsa. When you take juicy peaches mix them with creamy avocado, spicy jalapeño, lime juice, cilantro and salt, you instantly make the best salsa of all time!

You can enjoy this peach avocado salsa with chips as an appetizer, or spoon it over tacos (especially fish tacos!) or a protein like this flavorful, tender blackened salmon.

Why Peach Salsa is Worth Making

  1. Peach salsa is so unique! Tomato salsa is great, but making salsa with other fruits and veggies is a great way to add more flavor to your meals.
  2. It’s a great way to use up leftover peaches and ripe avocados. Don’t let anything go to waste!
  3. Versatile and delicious, it’s the best way to upgrade tacos, proteins and your appetizer table.

Ingredients

Use up some extra peaches by making this dish. If you end up making extra salsa, you can just eat it with some chips!

  • Peaches
  • Avocado
  • Red onion
  • Jalapeno pepper
  • Cilantro
  • Lime
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

Substitutions & variations

Switch up the peaches: You can also use nectarines, apricots and plumcots to make this salsa. Use what you have! If it’s not peach season, use canned peaches (drained). Frozen ones work if you thaw them and blend up the salsa until smooth (if you leave them whole, they are too soft).

Don’t like cilantro? Leave it out, or add a bit of fresh thyme or mint for some extra flavor.

No avocado? That’s okay, you can skip it! Just throw in an extra peach. You can also use diced melon, cucumber or peeled orange slices.

Other add-ins: Throw in some other fresh fruit and veggies like red bell pepper, tomato or even a little bit of lime zest.

How to Make Peach Salsa

Making homemade peach salsa is super simple!

  1. Dice the peaches and avocado.
  2. Finely chop the red onion, cilantro and jalapeno.
  3. Juice the lime.
  4. Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir together.
  5. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Storage

Since peaches and avocado can soften quickly, it’s best enjoyed fresh. Store peach salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

To help prevent browning, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface before sealing the container.

What to Serve with Peach Salsa

Peach Salsa is the ultimate dip for any chips that you like, but I'm partial to my homemade tortilla chips. They are so crunchy when made in the air fryer!

You can also spoon it over all kinds of proteins like grilled chicken or grilled halibut. It would also be great on pork.

You can even spoon it into shrimp tacos — my favorite! I sometimes like to add some extra fresh cilantro and some pickled onions on top for a little extra bite.

FAQ

Can you prepare peach salsa in advance?

Yes, you can prepare peach salsa in advance, but for the best texture and flavor, it's recommended to make it no more than a few hours ahead. If prepping ahead, store it in an airtight container in the fridge and wait to add the avocado until just before serving to prevent browning. You can also toss the ingredients with a little extra lime juice to help keep everything fresh.

Can I use frozen or canned peaches instead of fresh?

Fresh peaches are best for flavor and texture, but you can canned peaches (drained and patted dry) in a pinch. Just note that the salsa may be softer and slightly sweeter. Frozen peaches are not recommended as they are too soft. However, if you use frozen, throw everything in the blender for a smooth salsa, and no one will notice!
