You’ve probably heard the hype about bone broth by now, but which is the best bone broth to buy? To make it easier for you, I’ve rounded up all the Organic, Grass Fed, Whole30 Approved and compliant bone broth brands that are also Keto and Low Carb, and I’m sharing what I think of them, their prices, PLUS where to buy them!
Bone Broth vs. Stock
Have you ever wondered what’s the difference between bone broth and stock? Honestly, the terms are pretty interchangeable, but there’s a slight difference in how they’re made and their nutrition.
- Bone Broth is made by simmering the bones of an animal for many hours to extract flavor and collagen from the bones, which is related to healthy digestion, stronger hair and nails, and bone and joint health.
Because of this, bone broth will usually have a more gelatinous texture when chilled (jiggle jiggle) and will generally have higher protein and more amino acids and nutrients than stock.
- Stock is made by simmering the bones and sometimes meat of an animal to extract flavor, usually for a shorter amount of time.
Both bone broth and stock can have vegetables and herbs for flavor, although it isn’t required. You can also use stock and bone broth interchangeably in your recipes.
What’s the Best Bone Broth to Buy?
Well, that definitely depends on a few factors. In this post, I’ll share the ingredients, price, availability, and my personal thoughts on each brand so you can decide for yourself.
For Keto and Whole30 complaint bone broth options, you always want to check the ingredients label and make sure there’s no sugar or sugar substitutes added, as well as sneaky ingredients like corn starch and maltodextrin.
For my family, I try to always look for bone broths made with grass-fed bones and/or organic vegetables. And of course, if you can make your own bone broth, that’d be great, too!
Whole30 Approved Bone Broths
Each of these Whole30 bone broth brands have earned the official Whole30 Approved stamp, meaning their ingredients meet the standards of the Whole30 program.
The Whole30 Approved seal on bone broth or any product also means that their company has met the high standards and share values in line with Whole30.

These are all Keto friendly and Whole30 compliant bone broth brands. That means the ingredients fully meet the rules and recommendations of the Whole30 program. However, they do not have the official seal from Whole30.
But like other certifications, the absence of the logo doesn’t necessarily mean these products are subpar. It can mean the brand is a smaller business and cannot afford to pay for the vetting and licensing associated.

Sarah Starr says
Thank you for this review! I have 2 questions. I have been buying OSSO Good Bone Broth for many years, and the pouches used to have the official Whole30 stamp on them – now, they are no longer there. Did OSSO Good Bone Broth lose its approval by Whole30?
Also, despite my best research efforts I can’t find how long the Culinary Treasures broth is cooked. Do you know? Thanks!
Cook at Home Mom says
Hi Sarah! These are fantastic questions. I reached out to the OSSO team a few weeks ago and no one has responded. I’m not sure what the cause is, but I’d imagine it could have something to do with costs to maintain it, or possibly just a different marketing strategy. I’ve also tried to learn how long the culinary treasures broth is cooked for, and can’t find an answer. I’m so sorry about this, I wish I could answer more definitively! Please keep me posted if you happen to learn more. -Laura
