This avocado lime ranch dressing is a healthier version of a Chick-Fil-A salad dressing. It’s easy to make and tastes so much better than the restaurant’s version! The best news is, it’s less expensive, too!

Have you ever eaten at a restaurant and wished you could make one of their dishes at home? This happens to me a lot, especially when it comes to Chick-Fil-A recipes.
My boys crave their chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, and signature Chick Fil A sauce. For me, it’s the avocado lime ranch dressing. It’s super creamy, with a tangy, zesty flavor that seems to go well with practically everything, from chicken patties and fish to grilled veggies.
Why This Recipe Will Be a Favorite
There’s no doubt that homemade condiments and seasonings have better flavor than store-bought versions. This avocado ranch dressing is no exception. Oh, and the consistency is velvety and smooth—everything you want in a good salad dressing!
It’s easy to make, with only 5 wholesome ingredients. There is no sugar or preservatives, and thanks to Greek yogurt, it’s a good source of protein, too!
But if for no other reason, make avocado lime ranch dressing yourself because it will save you money!
Happy Kitchen Secrets
Here are my important mom-tested cooking tips for making this recipe! I’ve made this countless times to save you from a failed attempt.
- Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. For example, fresh lime juice always test better than concentrated juice.
- If the dressing is too thick to be pourable, thin it out by adding just a tiny bit of milk or water at a time. Remember, you can always add more if you feel it needs it, but you can’t remove once it’s in there.
- Don’t buy the avocado too soon! They only stay perfectly ripe for a day or two, so I like to buy them the day the before I use them.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
There are just five ingredients you’ll need for this recipe, and they’re all relatively budget-friendly!

- avocado: I recommend using Hass avocados for the best flavor. They’re the most common variety you’ll see in the store. They have a bumpy skin, and when they’re ripe, they have a very dark green (almost black) color.
- Greek yogurt: Be sure to use unflavored yogurt. Greek yogurt is higher in protein and has a thicker consistency than traditional yogurt. Dairy-free alternatives have a thinner consistency as well, but should still work.
- milk: Use any dairy or non-dairy milk; even water works well.
- ranch seasoning: Because it’s sugar-free and has no preservatives, I recommend making homemade ranch seasoning. Bonus– it’s less expensive to make at home.
How to tell if avocados are ripe
There is a very short window of time between when an avocado is perfectly ripe and when it’s overripe. Here’s what to look for at the store:
Hold it in your palm and gently squeeze it (don’t poke it with your fingertips). It should have a slight, gentle give.
Rock hard = it’s not ripe yet Soft or dented = overripe
If it’s too firm, leave it on the counter for a day or two.
Want to speed it up? Put it in a paper bag with a banana.
Variations
For a little bite, feel free to add minced garlic or shallot to the blender cup.
I like to sprinkle a bit of chopped cilantro over the dressing as garnish.

- Adjust the consistency (if needed). If the dressing is too thick to pour, stir in a tiny bit of milk or water at a time to thin it.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired, then serve.
Make it kid friendly: There is no doubt that kids love dipping sauces! Encourage them to use the avocado lime ranch dressing as dip for raw carrots or celery sticks.

Of course, this creamy condiment is delicious on salads, but there are plenty of other ways to enjoy it!
My boys like to drizzle the avocado lime ranch dressing on fish tacos. It's fantastic on steak kabobs and grain bowls, too. Add a bit to a Buffalo chicken and rice bowl or chipotle barbacoa beef and I bet you'll agree!
Keep the consistency thick and it's also a fantastic dipping sauce for air fryer chicken wings, sweet potatoes, French fries, and air fryer steak bites.
