If you cannot use almond flour or do not have it on hand, coconut flour is another Keto friendly option. You can also use regular flour or a gluten free all purpose if you are not concerned about sticking to a Keto approved diet.

Add a little bit of kick into the meatballs with some chili flakes. Other tasty flavors like fresh basil, Italian seasoning, fresh parsley and even fresh garlic would be amazing mixed in with the ground turkey mixture.

Heavy cream and half and half can both be used in place of whole milk or coconut cream.

Cornstarch, tapioca flour and Xanthan gum are all good swaps to use if you do not have arrowroot powder. You can also thicken up a sauce by whisking in a bit of flour!

How to Make Keto Turkey Meatballs

There are three different cooking methods for this Keto turkey meatball recipe. Choose whichever one works best for you, they all work wonderfully! Here are step by step guides for each cooking method:

Stovetop Method

Make these flavorful meatballs on the stovetop:

  1. Combine the ground turkey, egg, almond flour, pepper, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in a large mixing bowl. Mix with a spoon or your hands until the ingredients are well combined.
  2. Scoop out the mixture and form it into meatballs of desired size. I typically make them about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat a skillet on the stove top over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally.
  4. Cook until browned and each meatball reaches a safe internal temperature of 165°F or (75°C).
  5. Once cooked, remove from heat.

Oven Baked Method

To make keto meatballs in the oven, follow these instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Combine the ground turkey, egg, almond flour, pepper, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in a large bowl. Mix the ingredients together with a spoon or your hands until well combined.
  3. Scoop the meat mixture and form into meatballs that are about 1 inch in diameter.
  4. Place meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until browned and cooked through.

You can also make these amazing meatballs in the air fryer! Here’s how to do that:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes. If your air fryer does not have a preheat function, just turn it on for a few minutes to heat it up.
  2. Combine the ground turkey, egg, almond flour, pepper, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in a large bowl. Mix the meatball ingredients together with a spoon or your hands until well combined.
  3. Scoop out the meat mixture with a spoon or cookie scoop and form into meatballs that are about 1 inch in diameter.
  4. Place the meatballs in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch each other. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes or until browned and cooked through.
  5. Once cooked, remove from the air fryer and serve with cream sauce on top.

How to Make the Cream Sauce

You can serve turkey meatballs with any kind of sauce that you want, but I love this easy cream sauce. Here’s how to make it:

Whisk together coconut cream, seasonings, and arrowroot powder in a frying pan or saucepan. You can use the same pan you used for the meatballs if you cooked them on the stove top.

Simmer the ingredients together for 4-5 minutes, stirring continuously, until the sauce is thickened.

Pour it over the meat balls and serve!

How to Store Keto Turkey Meatballs

I recommend storing the sauce and meatballs separately. Do not freeze the sauce, but you can store it in the fridge for a few days. Place leftover meatballs into an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze leftovers! Freeze them on a baking sheet, then transfer to an airtight container or freezer bag and freeze fro up to 3 months.

What to Serve with Keto Turkey Meatballs

If you need to stick with a Keto diet, serve this dish with sides like air fryer mushrooms or air fryer broccoli. Bacon wrapped asparagus is also so tasty! You can serve the meatballs on their own, or over a bed of zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash, or even mashed cauliflower.

Other sides like roasted baby carrots, mashed potatoes, or a quinoa arugula salad would be tasty too. These meatballs are also wonderful with regular noodles or pasta instead of spaghetti squash. Or even serve them over rice!

A good meatball can even served as a great appetizer! These would be perfect served on a toothpick with a side or two of different sauces.

Check out these few simple tips to make the best

  • If you are baking the Keto meatballs, I recommend using a rimmed baking sheet. This will ensure that any grease that cooks off doesn’t spill over the sides of the pan and make a mess in the oven.
  • Don’t make your meatballs too large or they will not cook through in the middle. Meatballs that are about 1 inch in diameter typically turn out the best! You can use a cookie scoop to easily make them all the same size.
