Whole30 Turkey Burgers with Chipotle Ketchup

Baked Turkey Burgers made with a magic ingredient - sweet potatoes! They're delicious, kid-friendly, and great for meal prep!

Ingredients

Whole30 Turkey Burgers

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 cup cooked and mashed sweet potato about 1 medium sweet potato
  • 1/4 cup finely diced bell pepper about 1/2 of a bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion about 1/4 of a medium onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1.5 tbsp coconut flour
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Whole30 Chipotle Ketchup

  • 1 tsp canned chipotles (watch for sugar) or substitute 1/8 tsp chipotle powder
  • 1/4 cup compliant ketchup

Serve with

  • 1 head bibb or butter lettuce
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tsp fresh cilantro

Instructions

Do the Prep Work

  • Chop the garlic, onion, and bell peppers. Wash the lettuce leaves.
    Wait to cut the avocado until just before serving so it doesn't get brown.

Make the Turkey Burgers

  • Preheat oven to 375. As it preheats, in a medium bowl, mix together all ingredients with your hands. Chill in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
  • Form the mixture into 6-8 patties in your hands. Carefully lay each patty on a lined baking sheet and drizzle or spray lightly with olive oil.
  • Bake for about 12 minutes, flip, and cook for another 10 minutes.

Make the Chipotle Ketchup

  • While the burgers cook, mix together the chipotles and ketchup in a small bowl.

Assemble and Serve

  • Remove the burgers from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve with chipotle ketchup, sliced avocado, and lettuce wraps. 

Notes

To cook in a skillet: Heat a few tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the burgers and cook for about 4 minutes per side, turning once carefully. I wouldn't recommend cooking these burgers on the grill as they can tend to break apart a bit when you flip them.
