Quick and Easy Irish Soda Bread

Servings 1 8 inch loaf


  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup raisins


  1. Preheat oven to 350. Mix flour, salt, baking soda, & baking powder together in a medium bowl. 

  2. Pour buttermilk in and gently stir. Add the raisins and stir just once more. 

  3. Pour the mixture onto a lightly floured surface and knead the dough very lightly for about 2 minutes. You don't want to over-knead it or you will lose some of the flakiness.

  4. Form it into an 8 inch round and place in a lightly greased pan. 

  5. Bake for 40 minutes, and allow to cool before slicing.
