This Strawberry Basil Mocktail is an awesome non-alcoholic (or virgin) drink! It’s easy to make with simple, whole ingredients like strawberries, fresh basil, lime, and seltzer. Make it by the glass or by the pitcher!

🍹 Why it Works

I strongly believe there’s something kind of special about having a fun drink in hand. And this mocktail is one of my favorites!

It’s bubbly, hydrating, refreshing, and delicious.

The basil is really fresh and herbaceous and the strawberries make it lightly sweet. Together, they make for a lovely and hydrating mocktail, exactly what I need after a few hours in the sunshine.

Not to mention it’s super easy to make!

And because it’s made without alcohol (that’s what a mocktail is, after all), AND without added sugar, it’s wonderful for your healthy eating plans like Whole30, Low Carb, and WW.

Honestly, this is the perfect special drink for a warm afternoon, your next backyard bbq or picnic, or pretty much any time at all! It’s lightly sweet, hydrating, and very refreshing!

🍓 Ingredients

Note: I prefer to serve this drink in mason jars or high ball glasses to leave plenty of room for seltzer.

Step by Step

When you’re making a non-alcoholic drink at home, always remember that it doesn’t have to be complicated!

  1. Wash, hull, and chop up the strawberries into small pieces. If you’re using frozen strawberries, defrost them by microwaving them in a bowl for 1 minutes at a time, until softened through and no longer chilled.
  2. Use a mortal and pestle to muddle the strawberries, basil leaves, and the juice of half of the lime.
  3. Fill two glasses with crushed ice, then pour the strawberry mixture into the glasses.
  4. Top each glass with seltzer until it’s filled.
  5. Garnish with another slice of lime and some fresh basil leaves and serve.

By the Pitcher

If you’d prefer to make this mocktail by the pitcher for parties and get togethers, I’ve got you! It will make 8 glasses.

  1. Quadruple the recipe ingredients using the slider bar in the recipe card below. Follow the instructions to muddle the strawberry, lime, and basil.
  2. Add the strawberry and basil mixture to a large pitcher.
  3. Add 2-3 cups of crushed ice, the slices of lime, and seltzer to the pitcher.
  4. Gently stir just before pouring into glasses.

Expert Tips & FAQ

  • Start by breaking down the strawberries, then add the basil. This helps keep you from over-muddling the fresh basil. The leaves should be thoroughly crushed but not destroyed.
  • To make in advance: Prepare the strawberry mixture and store it covered in the refrigerator for up to a day. Just before serving, prepare the drinks. I recommend assembling the drinks no more than 10 minutes before serving to preserve the fizziness of the seltzer and keep the ice from melting.
  • Use some extra basil or a slice of lime as a garnish.
  • Make sure you use a fancy straw! Of course it’s not 100% necessary, but a fun straw in your drink does wonders to make you feel like you’ve got something special in your hand.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups fresh strawberries
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves
  • 12 ounces seltzer (1 can)
  • 1 lime half juiced, half sliced

Instructions

  • Wash, hull, and roughly chop the strawberries. Cut a lime in half. Juice half of the lime, and slice the other half of the lime for garnishes.
  • Muddle the strawberries, lime juice, and basil together using a large mortar and pestle. Alternately, you can use a fork or potato masher. It should be broken down enough so the mixture can fit through a straw, but not too much that there's no texture.
  • Divide the berry mixture between two tall glasses. Fill the glasses with crushed ice, and fill to the top with seltzer.
  • Garnish with a slice of lime and more fresh basil (both optional).

Notes

To make by the Pitcher (it will yield 8 glasses):
  1. Quadruple the recipe ingredients and follow the instructions to muddle the strawberry, lime, and basil.
  2. Add the strawberry and basil mixture to a large pitcher.
  3. Add 2-3 cups of crushed ice, the slices of lime, and seltzer to the pitcher.
  4. Gently stir just before pouring into glasses.

To make in advance:
  • Prepare the strawberry mixture and store it covered in the refrigerator for up to a day. Just before serving, prepare the drinks.
